Wikipedia, Sept. 17, 2014 (Doris Heyden (née Doris Heydenreich Selz); born June 2, 1905 in East Orange, New Jersey; died September 25, 2005 in Mexico City; prominent scholar of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures, particularly those of central Mexico. Heyden was a member of a group of artists, writers, folklorists, scholars, and political activists who together created the "Mexican Renaissance". During the mid-1940s she traveled to Mexico and was given the name of Mexican photographer Manuel Álvarez Bravo. Subsequently, Heyden and Álvarez Bravo married and had a son and daughter together. She was employed by Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History, as curator of the Teotihuacan hall at the National Museum of Anthropology and from 1961 to 1968 she was a contributing editor of the Handbook of Latin American Studies)
