“En este libro David Lorente reúne las voces de parteras, curanderos, hierberos, brujos, graniceros para explicar cómo los nahuas de Texcoco entienden y tratan la enfermedad, así como las maneras en las que adquirieron el don y los saberes para curar. El autor se dedica a observar y analizar el complejo sistema de especialistas y las demandas de los pobladores en busca de respuestas convincentes a la enfermedad. En un medio dominado por conflictos culturales entre la medicina nahua y la biomedicina, Lorente nos descubre, además, el papel trascendental de las mujeres, madres y curanderas, en la odisea terapéutica de los pueblos mesoamericanos.
